PT passes noise ordinance

Pleasant Township has never had a noise ordinance - until now.

At the June 22 Pleasant Township meeting, trustees passed a resolution to regulate noise within the township.

"The noise ordinance is long overdue and very much needed," said chairman Keith Goldhardt.

Recently, a resident came to the board meeting to discuss what could be done about his neighbor's constantly barking dog. The resident said the dog stays outside all night long and barks the whole time.

The trustees said they could not do anything at that time as there was no noise ordinance in place, but said they would work on getting one established in the coming weeks.

Now they have one, which gives law enforcement the authority the enforce the ordinance.

Goldhardt said it would be a second-degree misdemeanor for those in violation of the ordinance, and they could face up to six months in jail or a fine to be levied by the township.
