Annual kids' festival includes games, activities

Games, vendors and performances will once again fill Victory Park as part of this year’s PickeringtonKidz Festival.
The event, which will be held from noon to 4 p.m. May 22, will feature more than 40 vendors in addition to exhibits, kids’ bands and demonstrations.
“The festival is a way to do a fun community event for families and bring businesses that cater to kids and families together,” said Lenni Male, founder and organizer of the event. “Every booth is required to have a free activity or giveaway for kids.”
Other activities include demonstrations by a Newark children’s museum, flag corps performances and theater and gymnastics productions. The police and fire departments also will be on hand with apparatuses.
Cosponsored by the Pickerington Parks and Recreation Department and PickeringtonKidz, the festival is now in its fifth year.
“Since the first year, our attendance has grown as high as 4,000,” Male said.
The festival began after Male saw it as a way to bring area businesses and local families together. She had already started a local website, pickeringtonkidz.com, that listed activities for families in the area, and wanted to take it one step further.
“From there, it led to the festival as a way for businesses to have an inexpensive way to connect with kids,” she said.
Admission to the festival is free.
“Really it’s a fun family event to come to and it’s something people can do with their kids that doesn’t cost them anything for the afternoon,” Male said.
