Contractor has 120 days to start Broad Street Park

(by Sandi Latimer, staff writer - May 11, 2011)

As of May 5, the Columbus Division of Recreation and Parks has given Builderscape Improvements a deadline of 120 days to begin construction on the Broad Street Park in the Westland area.

However, wet weather has hampered the start of the project.

According to Justin Loesh, park development associate, the rainy weather in April  made the ground soggy and difficult to work. However, once the project begins, they estimate it will take four months to complete.

The project plans call for Builderscape to create the park drive, parking lot, a quarter mile looped paved walking path, benches, picnic area, sports field grading, and tree planting and seeding.

Additionally, this area is expected to have a couple of soccer fields by next spring.

Loesh said Recreation and Parks will continue talks with the Ohio Department of Transportation about installing a traffic signal at the intersection of West Broad Street and Alton & Darby Creek Road.

The park will be constructed on the south side of Broad Street near the intersection of West Broad Street and Alton & Darby Creek Road.
