PT wrapping up South Grener Avenue Phase II

(by Sean Lehosit, Westside Editor - April 21, 2011)

Prairie Township authorized the second to last payment on the South Grener Phase II project – amounting to $72,843 – and is now requesting the disbursement of monies from their $2.3 million Ohio Public Works Commission  (OPWC) grant.

“Disbursement Requests is a form which asks the Ohio Public Works Commission to disperse money from the Land Grant Award to parties that spent money on the project,” Township Administrator Tracy Hatmaker said.

Hatmaker asked for the board to authorize the disbursement of $83,507 for the services of contractor, Decker, and to the Franklin County Engineer for their work in relation to the Phase II project.

With Phase II close to wrapping up, the township prepares to enter Phase III.

“As opposed to being in the final stages, this is in the early stages,” Hatmaker said.

Further disbursements were approved toward Phase III consisting of $40,934. According to Hatmaker, this money is going to Prairie Township to reimburse funds they spent on engineering consultant, Stantec. With the acquisition of the Hometown Inn property underway, and the clearing up of other engineering matters, Hatmaker said they will need additional support from Stantec.

The township will execute a task order for Stantec to provide provisions and revisions to the South Grener Avenue Phase III – at the cost of $6,750.

Hatmaker added, each time the township receives an OPWC grant, the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) works as an administer and processes that grant. For this service they ask up to one percent of the total award.

“In this case, however, they’re asking for 0.0239 percent for the administration of the South Grener Avenue Phase III grant award process,” Hatmaker said, adding the administrative fee being asked by MORPC is $5,692.
