Letters to the editor

I don’t get it
We need energy and we have the means and resources to be independently free of foreign oil. There is a potential of 100 trillion barrels of oil in the mid-section of this country waiting to be tapped. We have thousands of natural gas waiting to be tapped.

We have over 500 years supply of coal to be dug. President Obama has placed a moratorium on the drilling in the Gulf of Mexico. The drilling in Anwar was stopped. Other sources of energy, solar and wind are still in the experimental stages. Atomic energy, which is perpetual, has been stopped. Electric cars and hybrid cars have not been proven.

They claim you can charge up an electric car for only $1.67 (doubtful) but the distance of only 40 miles and the price of purchase is out of the range of the common man. Why are we not going after these sources of energy until the “experimental” ones pan out? Are we failing on purpose? I don’t get it.

Ginther on Cooper Stadium redevelopment
The Cooper Park concept is an exciting proposal that has the potential to bring jobs, economic development and educational opportunities to Columbus.

We look forward to the chance to hear from all sides when City Council takes up the issue and follows the established process for considering rezoning applications, a process which includes public input. We encourage the developer and neighborhood leaders to continue to work together to find a workable solution that addresses the concerns of area residents, charts a path for redevelopment and puts people to work in Franklinton.

Andrew Ginther, president
Columbus City Council
