Truro Township increases web presence
Truro Township has a new web presence.
Its redesigned website, www.trurotwp.org, is more organized, easier to navigate and features information about township history, said Will Schuck, communications consultant for the township.
Schuck, who has also worked on revamping the Reynoldsburg Tomato Festival website, approached the township about the possible redesign.
Prior to Schuck coming on board, the site had been maintained by Battalion Chief Allen Deaver of the Truro Township Fire Department.
Deaver had been managing the site in his spare time for nearly 10 years.
The redesign took approximately six months. Schuck explained that together they sifted through information and updated the content, added new pictures and gave the site a more professional look while maintaining the home-made feel that is fitting for a smaller community.
The new site has pages specifically dedicated to the fire, roads and administrative departments as well as Silent Home Cemetery, which Truro Township maintains.
On the cemetery page is a more identifiable link where visitors can access a database of those buried in Silent Home Cemetery. Visitors can use the database as a tool to trace their genealogy.
Organization of information pertaining to the fire department is another change.
Visitors can scroll through the links and discover the history of the Truro Township Fire Department, which was established in 1937.
There, visitors can learn about the starting salary for a firefighter in 1970 or about the reasons for building a second fire station in 1959.
“It gives you a feeling of where you’ve been and where we’re at now,” Deaver said.
In addition to the site getting a new look, Deaver explained that the process of updating information on the new website will be more efficient as well.
The website is still a work in process though, Schuck said.
“We’re still putting on the finishing touches,” he said.
Currently, the site links to the old website for township trustee meeting minutes. Eventually, a new database will be created that will be easier to maintain for staff and more user-friendly for visitors, Deaver said.
Deaver said he hopes to continually add more information, including first aid tips.
“It gives us a good place to share information with the community,” Deaver said. “And it provides the public with a better place to get information and to provide feedback.”
