New city manager has high hopes for Pickerington

There is a new city manager in town.
William Vance signed his contract June 4 and will begin work July 1, according to a press release.
Vance, a graduate of Appalachian State University’s town and manager program, currently resides in Wildwood, Fla.
He has served as the town manager in Lady Lake, Fla., Luray, Va., and Franklinton, N.C.
Vance and his wife, Debi, have been getting acquainted with the area while their daughter finishes the school year in Florida.
Vance was one of 52 applicants, and one of the top six candidates to have interviewed in March.
Pickerington has been without a full-time city manager since Tim Hansley’s firing over “philosophical differences” in late October, as reported by the Messenger.
“I remain excited by what we have to work with and see many great things happening in Pickerington over the next few years,” Vance said in the release. “Many dedicated people are doing good public service works now, but I predict we will get better and better at what we do.”
Vance said he chose Pickerington because it seemed like a good match for him, citing his strengths in staff and economic development.
“I am a very happy to be assuming a staff of capable professionals in Pickerington, Ohio,” he said.
Vance said he feels the city has done a “fantastic job with the infrastructure” and that he believed it would propel the city forward when the economy turns around.
He added that he would like to continue to enhance the municipal services and prioritize a status of continual improvement.
Vance said one of his goals as city manager is to provide great customer service and to do what is necessary to establish and maintain a professional staff through training.
Vance added he believes Pickerington provides a very high quality of life, is a great place to live and work, and has fantastic schools and commercial opportunities. He said he wants to maintain that quality of life for those who live and work in the city.
“I’m eager to get started,” he said.
