The Westside Senior Citizens will meet on Thursday, March 25, at Columbia Heights United Methodist Church, 775 Galloway Road. The program will be Kim Taylor with Battelle Darby Metro Park, who will bring “critters”. The program will begin at 11 a.m. with the meeting at 11:30 and lunch at noon. Bring a dish of food to share. A night of laughter at PUMC
The Parkview Players will present “Triple Play,” a series of short comedies, at Parkview United Methodist Church, 344 S. Algonquin Ave., on Saturday, March 13. The performance, directed by Tom Ross, begins at 7:30 p.m. and has partial support from the Greater Columbus Arts Council Franklin Neighborhood Arts Program. The cost is $3, and tickets may be purchased at the door.

DAR to meet March 13

Westgate Blockwatch to meet
Westgate Blockwatch will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, March 24, at Parkview Methodist Church, at 7 p.m.
Guest speakers will be John Ivanic, public communications director for Columbus City Council, and Franklin County Deputy Shaun Boyd. Boyd will discuss the gang acitivity on the Westside.

WHS Performing Arts reunion
The Westland High School Performing Arts, 88-92 reunion planning committee is looking for alumni who particpated in band (marching, symphonic or concert), choir groups (chorale, symphonic, concert and men’s/women’s ensembles), and theater groups (fall and spring productions or clubs) for a reunion picnic this summer. The reunion will be held on July 10 at Hilliard Homestead Park.

WABA Scholarship Auction
The 20th annual Westland Area Business Association Scholarship Auction will be on Saturday, March 13, at the Charles Mentel Memorial Golf Course starting at 5:30 p.m. WABA invites you to “Rock Around the Clock” with them for a buffet dinner, cocktails, a silent auction and a live auction. The cost is $45.00 per person.
Many auction items are donated by local businesses. Last year, the auction raised $18,000 towards SWCS scholarships for seniors.

Kinder Vision at Westland Area Library
The Westland Area Kiwanis will bring the KinderVision program for child safety to the Westland Area Library on March 13, from noon to 2 p.m. This is a free event and all parents and children are encouraged to attend. KinderVision raises awareness on how to avoid abduction and exploitation.
The Westland High School Key Club and KinderVision will have on site KV Kids and “The Greatest Save” events, teaching personal safety in a fun, interactive way. Participants take home a safety bracelet.

Franklin Township food drive
Franklin Township is hosting a “Hope for Haiti” food drive. Franklin Township residents can stop by the firehouses, located at 4100 Sullivant Ave. or 2193 Frank Road, and donate non-perishable food items to the survivors in Haiti.
“Best Fish Fry Dinner in Town!”
St. Margaret of Cortona Church, 1600 N. Hague Ave., will host the “Best Fish Fry Dinner in Town!” on the six Fridays during Lent, from Feb. 19 to March 26, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Dinner includes fried ocean perch or baked cod, french fries, baked potato, baked steak fries, cole slaw, applesauce, roll and butter, and homemade desserts. Help yourself to free seconds! The cost for the dinner is $8 for adults, $7 for seniors and $3.50 for children 10 and under. Free coffee is provided. Pop and beer are available for a nominal fee. Carryouts are available at the door.

The Hilltop Kiwanis Club and the Men of Crossroads United Methodist Church have joined together to raise money to support the children of the Westside. They are offering all the pancakes you want to eat, a sausage patty and drink, for $5. The event will be held March 13, from 7 a.m. to noon at Crossroads United Methodist Church, 1100 S. Hague Ave.
St. Stephen fish fries
St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic Church, 4131 Clime Road, will host weekly Lenten fish fries each Friday beginning Feb. 19 and running through March 26, from 5:30 – 7 p.m. All you can eat fish (fried and baked), choice of side dishes, beverage and dessert included. Saint Agnes fish fry
The Knights of Columbus and Saint Agnes Parish will host an all you can eat fish fry each Friday, Feb. 12 - March 26 in the Saint Agnes cafeteria, 2364 W. Glenwood Free Taxes Ministry
The Glenwood Free Taxes Ministry offers anyone making $49,000 or less during 2009 free tax preparation. This ministry is performed by IRS certified and trained preparers who will e-file your federal and state (Ohio only) tax returns. With direct deposit, refunds are received in as little as 8-15 days.
The ministry will run from Jan. 18 – April 12. Taxes will be prepared on Mondays from noon – 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Appointments are expected to last approximately one hour and can be made by calling Glenwood United Methodist Church at 274-8469 or stopping by the church office at 2833 Valleyview Dr.

Rock on the Hill
Rock on the Hill will provide free after school fun for Westside kids every Wednesday, from 4-6 p.m., at 2500 W. Broad St. Activities include snacks, art projects, games and help with homework.
Bus transportation will be provided from West Broad Elementary, but parents must pick children up by 6 p.m.

Friends hosts senior group
Senior citizens are invited to a seniors group at Friends Worship Center, 3030 Clime Road, on the first Thursday of each month from 12-2:30 p.m. The event will feature a light lunch, games and fellowship. VFW Post 6065 will hold their meetings on the third Thursday of each month at 10 a.m. Meetings last about one hour and are held at the Prairie Township Senior Center, 4616 West Broad St. Those interested in getting involved or volunteering time should attend a meeting. Exercise for seniors
Seniors are invited to exercise on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 55 Pasadena Ave. Men and women aged 50 to 90 and up have exercised at the facility since 2001. The instructor leads each session with warm-ups, play balls, resistance bands, hand weights, some low-impact aerobics and balance activities. Paper recycling at Parkview
Parkview United Methodist Church, 344 S. Algonquin Ave., is providing the community with recycling bins for paper products. Bring newspapers, magazines, junk mail, etc., to the green and yellow bins in the church parking lot. No cardboard or phone books will be accepted. Questions, call 875-7231.
