West Jeff girls beat Liberty Union in overtime

West Jefferson’s girls basketball team traveled Jan. 19 to Liberty Union for a Mid-State Cardinal Division game. The Lady Riders defeated the Lions 66-57 in overtime.

The Riders were down 19-26 at halftime and down by as much as 13 points in the third quarter before turning up the defense and getting the offense rolling for a 37-36 lead after three quarters. Liberty Union sank three foul shots with less than a second to go to tie the game at 51. In overtime, West Jefferson Riders scored 15 points and held the Lions to six for the victory.

West Jefferson senior K.C. Elkins hits a three-point shot to end the first quarter. She also hit a three-pointer at the buzzer in the third quarter. Elkins finished the game with a game high 37 points.
West Jefferson’s Kristi Humble (14) and Joelle Conway (34) play defense in the fourth quarter. Humble scored two points and Conway scored 18 points for the game.
West Jefferson’s Charlie Iams drives to the basket in the second quarter past her defender. Iams finished with four points.
West Jefferson senior Dani Turner looks over the floor to set the offense for the Riders. Turner led the defense for the Riders.
