Lithopolis gets funds to fix Columbus Street
Lithopolis will receive funding to repair its rough Columbus Street.
The Ohio Public Works Commission, District 17 Executive and Full Committees approved funding to fix Columbus Street as part of its slate of projects for Round 24. The Columbus Street Reconstruction Project received 136 points and ranked 12th out of 51 funded projects.
"This was our third attempt to receive funding," said Lithopolis Mayor Eric Sandine. "The project involves a grant of $669,000 and a loan of $655,250."
Sandine said the village should receive the formal award letter in May with final agreements to be completed in June. The project, a full depth, full width reconstruction of Columbus Street from Delaware to Walnut Street, will start after July 1, 2010.
"Essential in qualifying for the project was Lithopolis Council's decision last year to complete the design engineering outside of the project scope," said Sandine. "If we had included the engineering in the project cost we would have been one point under the funding threshold."
Lithopolis will begin scheduling public meetings in March to disseminate information and timelines for the project.
