Letters to the editor
Renters pay too
Someone wrote a letter to the editor recently regarding an opinion that renters can vote for a levy with no monetary consequences. Renters pay the owner of the property and the rent is based on the value of the property and what that property is taxed. I would assume when a levy passes, rent increases to compensate for the increased cost put on the property owner. So, renters do pay for levies. Their rent goes up and they pay more to live where they live.
As a homeowner in Grove City since 1995, my total cost of home ownership per month is far less than most people's rent in the area, at least for renting a home - which is another burden for people who have not been able to own their own property. To say that they do not carry a levy burden is insulting. We all do. But if I should sell my home, trust me, I'll make a profit. Renters will not. And let's not forget the tax advantages home ownership allows.
Give renters a break with the notion that they somehow are not affected by what they vote for. Most of us have all been renters in our lives at some point. Be grateful to own property.
As for the youth vote the writer addressed, they are our tomorrow and will carry a levy burden in the future. They are 18 and older and are already or will very soon pay their own way. Whose to say how many already contribute to a families living expenses?
If this levy increases our future community members' knowledge of how rent versus mortgage works and that youth matter, that will be good enough for me and I'll be happy to help pay for it.

Home tour a success
I would like to thank everyone who helped make this year's home tour a success.
All proceeds were presented to the Grove City Emergency Services at a time of year when they need it most. The homeowners, Century Village and the museum did a fantastic job of decorating. They donated their time and opened their hearts and homes to make the season a little brighter for some who are having a hard time right now.
Thanks to Wright Graphic Design for printing and donating the tickets, Karen Fahy from the city, The Village Merchant for their donation, and my daughter Polly Kelly for all the help.
