Rather than continuing to allocate money from the general fund for Capitol Improvement Projects (CIP), the council plans to increase the CIP's portion of the budget.
Currently, the CIP projects receive 2 percent of the city's income tax revenue, which equates to $200,000, City Auditor Richard Harris said.
Councilman Mel Clemens suggested the council raise the portion to 8 percent to allow the city to better maintain roads.
The finance committee will continue the discussion at its Oct. 18 meeting.
