'Dine around' to raise money for cause
(by Christine Bryant, Eastside Editor - February 11, 2009)
Restaurant goers can contribute to the city's annual Fourth of July parade while enjoying a bite to eat this month as the Reynoldsburg Community Association kicks off its 2nd annual February Dine Around fundraiser.
The event, which is the major fund-raising event for the association, enables the organization to sponsor the July parade, as well as other favorite city events including the community Halloween party and the Movie Night in the Park.
During the week of Feb. 23-27, residents may dine at a list of participating restaurants, which will then contribute a predetermined percentage of the diner's bills to the association - usually between 10 and 25 percent.
"We experienced a very successful first year," said Mary Hudson, vice-president of the Reynoldsburg Community Association.
Restaurants on board so far this year include Tim Hortons, Texas Roadhouse, Donatos, O'Charley's and City BBQ. The association is in the process of lining up more participants and will provide flyers to identify a complete list of the participating restaurants, Hudson said.
The Reynoldsburg Community Association was organized by a group of Reynoldsburg area residents in October 2007. Since its inception, the non-profit organization has sponsored or supported several other events, including the community spaghetti dinner, and provided popcorn at the 2007 and 2008 Christmas on the Towne event and refreshments at the 2008 city Christmas tree lighting.
