Bexley Recreation expands registration to online

(by Christine Bryant, Eastside Editor - January 10, 2009)

Parents wishing to register their children for Bexley Recreation Department activities now have an easier tool at their disposal.

For the first time, the department is offering online registration as part of a new registration program. The new online registration option became available to residents Jan. 5.

"The online portion is the direction that we wanted to go in large part because of the flexibility it offers our community," said Michael Price, recreation supervisor for the Bexley Recreation Department.

Nearly every activity and program the department offers will be available for registration online except for summer camp and the city pool.
Residents also may request a Jeffrey Mansion or shelter rental online, though the recreation office will contact the resident afterward to finalize the rental.

Price said the new option will allow residents to have access to their account information anytime, will mean less paperwork for the public to fill out when registering for a program, and will allow residents to view programs the city offers at anytime from anywhere.

"This idea has been a long time in the works," Price said. "We have spent the past year or so researching a new registration program."

The change also means a saving of time and dollars for the department, he said. It also allows the department to keep track of which programs generate a greater interest.

To register, go to www.recreation.bexley.org.

Click on the "register online" link to request an account.

After residents have set up their account, they may register for classes, request a reservation or view upcoming activities and events.

In-person registration for events began Jan. 8 in which a brochure and hard copies of forms were delivered to the public.

There no longer will be phone registration.

All registration must be done in person or online, Price said.

Beginning Jan. 12, the recreation department is extending its office hours every Monday until 7 p.m. for those who wish to register in-person.
