Highland Elementary School food service worker Connie Toles checks with first grader Thomas Ricketts to make sure he had enough to eat on Christmas Day at a holiday dinner held at the school. Toles supervised many volunteers who cooked and served 45 families of the school and neighborhood. The dinner was the idea of principal Jaime Taylor after hearing of so many requests for assistance this holiday season. She said if families could have a hot meal on Christmas Day, they might be able to spend some money for gifts for their children. Food was donated or purchased with donations. Every child received a gift bag that included a book.
