PT posts lighting district assessments
Prairie Township established its 2009 tax assessments for each lighting district in the area at the Sept. 10 trustee meeting.
According to Fiscal Officer Dan McCardle, the rates in each district vary based on utility costs of the lighting and the density of the population as the cost is equally spread among parcels in each district. Also, newer lots and substantially bigger lots bear higher costs.
“The costs pretty much stayed the same as compared to other years,” said trustee Steve Kennedy.
The amount set for each district will be paid by residents every year for the next five years with the exception of West Point, which is set for 2009 only. Costs range from $42 to $262 per year.

Prairie Township plans to auction surplus items that it cannot store, according to Tracy Hatmaker, township administrator.
The public auction will take place on Oct. 29 at 4 p.m. outside of the township offices at 23 Maple Drive.
Among the unofficial list of items from the township offices and the fire department are a 1994 Ford Crown Victoria, several items of furniture, lap top computers, printers and other office machinery, TV sets and a pool table.
The auction is expected to last about an hour, said Hatmaker.
Trick-or-Treat will last from 6 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 31.
The hours were established in 2004 by the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission and remain in effect for 2008.
