Paper recycling at Parkview
Parkview United Methodist Church, 344 S. Algonquin Ave., is providing the community with recycling bins for paper products. Bring newspapers, magazines, junk mail, etc., to the green and yellow bins in the church parking lot. No cardboard or phone books will be accepted. Questions, call 875-7231.
Exercise for seniors
Seniors are invited to exercise on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 55 Pasadena Ave. Men and women aged 50 to 90 and up have exercised at the facility since 2001. The instructor leads each session with warm-ups, play balls, resistance bands, hand weights, some low-impact aerobics and balance activities. Each participant can adapt the routine to his/her comfort level. The cost is $35 for each eight-week session. Call the instructor, Lori Vazquez, at 989-4595 with questions.
VFW Post 6065
VFW Post 6065 will hold their meetings on the third Thursday of each month at 5 p.m. Meetings last about one hour and are held at the Prairie Township Senior Center, 4656 West Broad St. Those interested in getting involved or volunteering time should attend a meeting. The Ladies Auxiliary meets at 6:30 p.m. The motivations of the VFW are patriotic, historical, and educational. They strive to perpetuate the memory and history of their dead, and to assist their widows and orphans. Call Will Davis at 309-0171 for further information.
Golden Age Center
The Salvation Army Golden Age Center, 2300 W. Mound St., invites anyone aged 60 or over to attend on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., for lunch, crafts, movies, BINGO, games, health and fitness, and fun. Call Ellen Marvin, senior director, at 274-7600, ext. 108, one day in advance to reserve lunch for $1.25 per day. Fee for expenses is $9 per month.
Westland Area Commission
The next meeting of the Westland Area Commission will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, XXXX, at Doctors’ Hospital, 5100 W. Broad St. Area residents are encouraged to attend the meeting and speak with commission members about concerns they have in the community.
WHS class of 1988
The Westland High School class of 1988 is having their 20th class reunion at Whiskey Dicks Bar, 2690 E. Dublin-Granville Road, on Aug. 23 at 7 p.m. Cost is $15 per person paid at the door. Central High class of 1973

The Lincoln Village/West Broad Clean and Safe Community Project, in partnership with Homes on the Hill, will sponsor a home maintenance workshop on plumbing on Aug. 18, from 6–8p.m at the Westland Area Library, 4740 West Broad Street.
West Broad cleanup
The Lincoln Village/West Broad Clean and Safe Community Project have scheduled a cleanup for Aug. 23. Volunteers should meet at 9 a.m. at the Lincoln Village entrance sign in the Giant Eagle parking lot. Any students participating in the cleanup will receive a community service certificate.
American Legion Post 799
The American Legion Post 799 holds their monthly meetings on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. Meetings are held at the Prairie Township Fire Station, 123 Inah Ave. The next meeting is scheduled for Aug. 12. Free plumbing repair workshop
Homes on the Hill CDC will host a free homeowner education workshop geared towards homeowners on Aug. 25 from 6-8 p.m. at 12 S. Terrace Ave. At the workshop, individuals will learn to maintain their homes through basic repairs and regular home inspections. The course is open to the public and free of charge.
The upcoming workshop will focus on plumbing basics and preventative maintenance. Guest speaker Cliff Spruill, rehab tech for the city of Columbus, will take questions and demonstrate simple home repairs.

Family Fun Fair
A Family Fun Fair, bake sale and silent auction will be held on Aug. 16, or if it rains, Aug. 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Hoge Memorial Presbyterian Church, 2930 West Broad St. Come for fun, games, to make a bid, or to get homemade goodies.
West High class of 1964
The West High School class of 1964 is having their 45th class reunion Oct. 3-4. Friday evening, attendees will gather at Magly Field for the West Homecoming Game followed by a casual time from 9-11 p.m. at O’Charlie’s at I-270 and Georgesville Road. No reservations needed for the Friday events. Saturday will feature dinner at the Florentine Restaurant, 907 W. Broad St., from 4-8 p.m. Reservations are needed. Westland boosters cruise in
The Westland High School Band Boosters will be hosting a cruise in on Sept. 7 from 11 a.m. unil 3 p.m. The cruise in will benefit our marching band. Registration will begin at 11 a.m. for $10. Preregistration is $7 until Sept. 1. Dash plaques will be awarded to the first 50 cars registered. Food, door prizes, raffles and music will be available. Concert and ice cream social
A concert by the Worthington Civic Band will be held on Aug. 17 at 3 p.m. at St. Agnes Church, 2364 W. Mound St, free of charge. An ice cream social will follow at 4 p.m.
Free clothing and lunch
New Hope Church, 3060 W. Broad St., will provide free women’s, men’s and some children’s clothing Aug. 23 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Free lunch will be provided.
Westland Senior Citizens
The Westland Senior Citizens will meet on Aug. 14 at Columbia Heights United Methodist Church, 775 Galloway Road. The meeting will begin at 11 a.m. Sheriff Jim Karnes will be the speaker. A potluck will be held at noon with euchre to follow. For more information, call 870-6476.

CCHS Band car wash
The Central Crossing High School Band will hold a car wash Saturday, Aug. 9 all day at Rick’s Broadway Wash and Lube, 3118 Broadway in Grove City. A portion of all car wash and oil change proceeds will directly benefit the Central Crossing High School Band.

Lunch and Learn
The Prairie Township Senior Center is sponsoring Lunch and Learn sessions during the month of August. These sessions, including lunch, are held at 12 p.m. at the center’s new location, 4616 W. “Healthy Eating for Diabetics”

Build your own Sundae

St. Cecilia Parish Festival
The St. Cecilia 2008 Parish Festival will be held Aug. 22 from 5 p.m. - midnight and Aug. 23 from 4 p.m. - midnight. Events include silent auction, quilt raffle, craft booth, hourly prizes, children’s games and rides, games of chance, instant bingo, cake booth and several raffles. Lots of food and free admission and parking. No alcohol or pets. The church is located at the corner of Norton Road and Sullivant Avenue.
2008 Labor Day Telethon
American Legion Post 532, 1571 Demorest Road, will host a remote location for the 2008 Labor Day Telethon. The festivities begin with a breakfast on Sept. 1 from 8-11 a.m. and continue until 8 p.m. There will also be a horseshoe tournament, children’s activities, hot food from the grill, a cornhole tournament, raffles, door prizes, and fundraising activities. This event is open to the public. Money collected helps pay to send children with Muscular Dystrophy to summer camp and helps fund research efforts as well as assist in providing medical supplies and devices to the handicapped adults and children in central Ohio. All donations are tax deductible.
Camp Chase Blockwatch
Camp Chase Blockwatch is holding their summer meeting on Thursday, Aug., 21, 7 p.m., at the Hilltop branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library. A representative from the Columbus Division of Police’s radio room will be on hand to explain what goes on when you call 9-1-1 or 645-4545. Also attending will be Danielle Weber of code enforcement, Community Crime Patrol, 19th Precinct Police Liaison Officer Ken Ramos, and Councilman Andrew Ginther’s aide Ken Paul to address scrap metal questions and concerns. Financial literacy workshop
Homes on the Hill CDC (HOTH) will present a free financial literacy workshop on Aug. 13 from 6-8 p.m at HOTH, 12 S. Terrace Ave. The workshop will be taught by special guest presenters and will focus on financial literacy for homeowners. The class will also include advice on how to develop and use a household budget, pay off debt and tips on saving money.

The Westside International Farmer’s Market will be held each Thursday through Oct. 16 from 3-7 p.m. at the Hilltop Business Center, 3600 Sullivant Ave. Vendors are still needed for this growing market. 2008 WHSA Hall of Fame
The 2008 West High School Alumni Hall of Fame will be honored at a buffet dinner and ceremony in the school library on Sept. 5. A social time will begin at 5 p.m., followed by a buffet dinner at 5:30 p.m. Friends, family and alumni are invited to attend. The cost is $15 and reservations are required.
