Car, truck and bike show will benefit West Jeff band

The West Jefferson High School band will host a “Keep the Music Cruisin’ ” car, truck and bike show July 28 at the high school, 1 Roughrider Drive. (The rain date is July 29.)
Registration is $10 per vehicle and runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Awards will be announced at 3 p.m.: top 20 in the 1979 and older category, top 10 in 1980-2000, two awards for motorcycles, two three-foot trophies for best of show, and one three-foot trophy for director’s choice. Performance Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge is the trophies sponsor.
Dash plaques will go to the first 25 entries. A 50/50 raffle, door prizes, concessions including Booster burgers, deejayed music, face-painting and other family-friendly activities are planned. The door prizes were donated by Ramey’s Tire & Auto, Tractor Supply, Subway and others. Jim Hershey will be on site with his race car from Columbus Motor Speedway. For a donation, visitors can sit in the car.
Proceeds will go toward replacement of uniforms.
“The number of students in band is growing, and we have a lot of problems fitting some of the students,” said Elmer Broecker, band director. Jeff Kennedy, a band member, suggested the car show idea as a fund-raising solution
