Galloway musician releases country gospel album

(by Brittany L. Browne, staff writer - June 27, 2012)

Galloway resident Larry Wilson is self-taught in country music and a gospel vocalist. His band released its album, “Set Aflame,” earlier this year.

“Mixing country and gospel together is like peanut butter and jelly; two great things combine to make one great treat, but to share the Gospel is the true inspiration,” said Galloway resident Larry Wilson.

Larry Wilson and God’s Country Band released their new album entitled, “Set Aflame,” earlier this year. The country gospel group signed with Tate Music Group in 2010.

Inspired by faith, family and life, Wilson said the album is honest, soulful and Christ-centered.

Wilson’s older brother gave him his first guitar as a birthday gift at the age of 12. He never had formal lessons and is self-taught.

He said his guitar heroes include James Burton, Jerry Reed, Chet Atkins and Scotty Moore.

Wilson said people should look forward to great music and a real good time when they attend one of the band’s concerts.

The band has performed at Calvary Road Community Church in Grove City, the Breaking Chains Outreach Ministry on the Westside and Neutral Ground in Circleville.

Other band members include Jamie Pickrell on drums, Dave Paxson playing rhythm, Lynn Nutter on bass and steel guitarist, Walt Wilson.

Wilson said they occasionally invite their friends to play on stage with them, too.

One of the group’s favorite performances was in Nashville, Tenn. at the Nashville Palace, Wilson said. They hope to play sometime soon in the “Bible Belt” in southeastern and south-central U.S.

“Our songs, although they are songs of faith, are songs about life. I write from an approach that will speak to any audience, regardless of a person’s spiritual status,” said Wilson. “Our music will touch, encourage and inspire all of our listeners for this journey we must all take together, called life.”
