BalletMet's "The Nutcracker" features two Westside youths

BalletMet presents “The Nutcracker” through Dec. 24 at the Ohio Theatre, 39 E. State St., Columbus featuring two Westside performers, Calvin Chandler and Kaliska Williams.

The classical ballet is performed by a cast of more than 150 professional and student dancers, larger-than-life characters and narration by Sir Roger Moore.

This season features new costumes for the characters of Drosselmeyer, mice and angels. Also, a 30-foot holiday tree, the Columbus Symphony Orchestra will perform Tchaikovsky’s score live, and the Hilliard Davidson Madrigals, Bexley High School Vocal Ensemble and the Capriccio Vocal Ensemble will sing before and during the performances.

This season features BalletMet’s 26 professional dancers, three trainees and 154 student dancers. The company will present 16 public performances and three “Morning at the Ballet” shows. BalletMet will also tour to Detroit, Mich.

In the spirit of giving, patrons can bring a jar of peanut butter to any performance to benefit the Mid-Ohio Food Bank.

• Dec. 18 at 1 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

• Dec. 20 at 7:30 p.m.

• Dec. 21 at 7:30 p.m.

• Dec. 22 at 7:30 p.m.

• Dec. 23 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

• Dec. 24 at 1 p.m.
