Reynoldsburg-Truro Historical Society holds event

The Reynoldsburg - Truro Historical Society, under the leadership of president Mark Myers, will hold its 35th annual flea market and sale on the grounds of the society complex.

The grounds of the Reynoldsburg-Truro Historical Society will become a community block party as the organization presents its 35th annual flea market, yard sale and pig roast on Oct. 1.
“The parking lot will be filled with tables full of donations of every shape and kind for the yard sale,” said society president Mark Myers. “On the front lawn will be the pig roast and on the side will be a flea market with 20 vendors.”
This is the organization’s biggest event and fundraiser of the year and features books, knickknacks, furniture and homemade pies, cakes, cookies and breads. The Barth family is back for a second year providing pork sandwiches hot off the grill along with an assortment of sides.
“We’ll have something for everyone,” said Myers. “The museum will be open and people can stop and see the displays set up in the barn. It will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.”
In case of rain, the event moves to the following Saturday, but Myers is keeping his fingers crossed there will be blue skies and sunshine for the first day of October.
Also on display will be a quilt hand-appliqued by society life member Wilma Turner and given to the organization as a fundraiser. Over 1,000 tickets were sold last year for Turner’s previous donation of a gold star quilt. Her 2011 edition is a double bed Fruit and Flower quilt.
Turner is a 1947 Reynoldsburg High School graduate. Her parents, Gerry and Maude Wiswell ran the Red and White grocery for many years. The artisan now lives with her husband, Jack, a retired Columbus police helicopter pilot, along an airstrip in Florida.
Tickets for the raffle will be available at the society complex, 1485 Jackson St. (across from Hannah Ashton School), during the yard sale and up until the Dec. 10 drawing. The winner need not be present to win. Tickets are $1 each and $5 for six.
The society is also accepting the donation of useable, but unwanted goods or books for the yard sale and helpers are needed to assist with the early morning set-up and late afternoon take-down.
