PT submits OPWC grant applications

(by Brittany L. Browne, staff writer - August 29, 2011)

Prairie Township authorized two grant applications to be submitted to the Ohio Public Works Commission (OPWC) on Aug. 24.

The grants will be completed and submitted to the District 3 Integrating Commission staff at Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Committee by or before Sept. 6.

One application is for the complete reconstruction of Woodlawn Avenue and the second is for Beacon Hill Drive.

If approved, both project calls for the resurfacing and regrading of the road with the installation of gutters on the curbs.

The total cost of the Woodlawn Avenue reconstruction project would be around $2.7 million and Beacon Hill Drive would be $2.3 million.

The OPWC funding is 74 percent grant monies and 26 percent loan, which the township will pay back over a 20 year period without interest.

If either grant is approved construction will begin in spring 2013.

According to Tracy Hatmaker, administrator of Prairie Township, the County Sanitary Engineer’s Office would be responsible for the loan portion covering the water line if they confirm they want to proceed with that portion of the project.

More updates on the Woodlawn Avenue and Beacon Hill Drive projects should arrive in December or January at the latest.

Additionally, the South Grener Avenue project is in its third and final stage. Further updates on the South Grener Avenue Phase III will be reported near the end of October or early November.

Township looking for zoning alternates

According to Hatmaker, the township is still looking for two individuals to fill alternate positions for the zoning commission and board of zoning appeals.

The duties of the zoning commission are to make recommendations to the trustees based on the comprehensive plan and making amendments on zoning code.

Zoning appeals makes recommendations to the trustees on variances on zoning code requested from individuals.
