Mayor Michael Coleman and Columbus City Council member Michelle Mills came to the intersection of Sullivant Avenue and Clarendon Avenue on Aug. 2 to watch the first of 12 security cameras to be installed on the Hilltop along Sullivant Avenue. The city expects all 12 cameras to be fully operational the first week of August. Coleman said that while last year was the “summer of violence,” this year is the “summer of initiative.”

Over 100 cameras are being installed throughout the city of Columbus over the next year, including the additional neighborhoods of Mt. Vernon, Weinland Park, Livingston Avenue and Linden. This is part of a practical policing strategy to impact crime.

Each camera has the capabilities of seeing 360 degrees, mask homes for the privacy of residents, and are fully wireless allowing them to be moved from one post to another with ease.
